Poached Pears in Red Wine with Cheesecake Cream
Poached Pears with Cheesecake Cream is one of my favourite desserts! The red wine gives a glorious colour and the lemonade provides a sumptuous sweetness. It’s so simple, yet it looks so good that it makes a perfect finale to a dinner party. But it’s also just like eating one piece of fruit and a heaped tablespoon of cottage cheese so it makes a great everyday dessert or snack that fits beautifully into a meal plan as 1 serve fruit and 1/4 serve dairy.
I make four at a time and keep them in the fridge for several days. I warm them in the microwave to enjoy.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
4 Buerre Bosc Pear
1/2 cup red wine
1 cup no added sugar lemonade
Method
- Peel pears and add to a small saucepan
- Mix the red wine and 1/2 cup of the lemonade.
- Bring to the boil, cover and simmer until tender.
- Remove pears and keep warm if serving soon.
- Add the extra 1/2 cup lemonade and continue to simmer until the liquid is reduced to a thick, sweet syrup.
- Serve with a dollop of cheesecake cream and drizzle the syrup over.

Hey Michele, this looks amazing! I want to make the poached pears so my bub can eat them too though. Any ideas to substitute for the red wine?

Great question. You can add the red wine towards the end and take some pears out first. Red food colouring also works if you’d like the red but not the alcohol. Having said that, the heat does evaporate some of the alcohol so it’s less than it might seem, but the flavour of the wine would remain. Do let me know what you try and maybe post us a pic on the Food Lovers Dietitian Facebook Page?
